SUSAN SHAND

After many years of teaching in Early Childhood, I've always been interested in what really draws children's attention. I particularly saw that the beautiful tactile qualities of the feltworks that I was dabbling with, captured the children. So, about 10 years ago, I jumped in and have been caught in the 'web' of felt-making ever since.

I love the possibilities of wool - the warmth, the resilience, the tactile qualities and the colour moods. I also really enjoy the problem-solving aspect when I'm figuring out a new piece - using wool - this amazing fibre!

My studio sits in a sunny corner of the old Whanganui Chronicle Building, which is now home to Article Café. If I'm in my studio, then I always welcome visitors.
